In 1852, German settlers in Austin organized a singing society bearing the name "Saengerrunde". A favorite meeting place for the members, Scholz Garten, a beer garden established in 1867 by German immigrant August Scholz, included a dance hall and bowling alley. In 1908, the Austin Saengerrunde club purchased the property, and to this day, continues to preserve and celebrate the German heritage. Guests can dance, sing German songs, bowl, and have a bier at Scholz Garten. Located in the heart of Downtown Austin, and within walking distance from the Capitol, Saengerrunde is not your typical Texas Dance Hall, so put on your lederhosen for a good time of bier drinking, and German sing-a-longs!
