The Greenbelt, also known as the "Hill of Life", is great for adventure seekers. Activities include the usual...hiking, biking and swimming but you can also switch up your workout with some rock climbing on the limestone cliffs or explore Airmen's Cave, Travis County's longest cave at 2 miles in length.
Get a great workout at the Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trails with 10 miles of trails that border Lady Bird Lake. You will find various access points to hike and bike as well as stations to rent kayaks, paddle boards and canoes. Don't miss the recently opened boardwalk and catch a peek of the Stevie Ray Vaughan statue during your trek. You'll see millions of dogs and once a snake was even spotted wrapped around his human on the trail.
Zilker Park is considered Austin's most loved park and home to Austin City Limits Music Festival...one of my first Austin loves. Sprawling over 351 acres, on any given day you will find hundreds of Austinites hiking, biking, swimming in the natural spring fed pool (Barton Springs Pool), playing sand volleyball and soccer, throwing frisbee with their dog or getting some sun. No matter your workout of choice, you are sure to be able to burn a few calories here! For some light walking make sure to visit the beautiful Botanical Gardens at Zilker Park, featuring 26 acres of themed gardens like the Succulent Garden, Butterfly Garden, Rose Garden and Herb Garden sprinkled with koi ponds and waterfalls throughout.
Explore the gorgeous Mount Bonnell, also known as Covert Park, it is the highest point in Austin and covers over 5 miles. After climbing the over 100 stairs to the top, you may be out of breath but it's worth the payoff...the best views of Lake Austin and downtown! Take water....or Tito's! You'll need it.
